My Story

Sharing my journey as an artist exploring my roots to create visual delights for the future

As an abstract artist, I pay homage to my ancestors who, with unwavering courage, navigated the tumultuous waves of history during the India-Pakistan partition. There is inspiration in the struggle and resilience - each step marked by upheaval, turmoil, and the nuances of the human psyche. I use vivid colors as a visual metaphor that represents mental landscapes, the ever-changing hues of myriad human emotions and the sheer complexity of human experience, that shaped the layers of history.

Convolutions of gold with color represent the convolutions of the human brain, where emotions and memories are woven together. Through my art, I seek to explore the human condition, shedding light on mental health issues that have touched the lives of my ancestors and continue to affect countless others.

I started my professional journey as a scientist researching human brain tumors. After migrating to the US, I quickly became busy with the rigors of life: children, family and work. Gradually realizing I needed an outlet after my daily duties, I started painting. I discovered that this dormant talent of mine had a power to heal, to provoke introspection, and to create a space where emotions can be celebrated and acknowledged. Through my work therefore, I hope to foster conversations around mental health, inviting viewers to explore the complexities of their own emotions and experiences.

My work is an homage to the journeys undertaken, the sacrifices made, and the memories etched in the collective consciousness of a generation forever marked by forced migration and cultural upheaval. My art is an offering to the memory of my ancestors, a tribute to their resilience, and a celebration of their enduring legacy that honors the sacrifices of those who came before us.

The gold in my art represents innate strength that shines amidst adversity.
