Artist Bio - About Anshu

I am a self-taught mixed-media artist. and my art was born out of a lifelong love for creativity, stirred by the vibrant colors and spirit of South Asia.

Originally from Northern India and now based in New York City, my path to art has been both unconventional and deeply personal. Trained as a scientist, I turned to painting as a form of healing while navigating the demands of a career, motherhood, and profound personal loss. After my mother’s passing, art became my way to process grief and rediscover connection. In the quiet moments between responsibility and self-discovery, I found solace in color, light, and texture. I use analytical precision and boundless imagination in my creative process—layering texture, color and found material to depict emotion, depth and connection.

As a woman of color, I draw inspiration from my cultural heritage and infuse each piece with layers of identity and representation. I often work with organic materials such as sand, paper, and fiber to create tactile, dimensional surfaces that embody both strength and fragility. Through these elements, I strive to transform everyday materials into expressions of resilience and joy.

My work explores the emotional terrain of the human mind—the highs and lows, the shadows and light. The ridges and contours of my textured surfaces mirror life’s complexities, while my palette of vibrant hues and cool blues reflects the coexistence of struggle and calm.

As a working mother and wife, I understand the importance of mental health and balance in today’s fast-paced world. My art has become a space for reflection and healing, a platform for dialogue about emotional wellness and creative resilience. Through my work, I hope to create spaces where everyone feels seen, supported, and inspired to embrace their own healing journeys.

My art continues to evolve as a dialogue between science and spirit, texture and emotion—a journey toward finding beauty, connection, and light amid the many layers of life.

Wearable Art

In recent years, my creative journey has expanded beyond canvas and texture into a new expression—wearable art. What began as an exploration of material and form has evolved into a collection of hand-painted jewelry pieces that carry the same spirit as my larger works: stories of resilience, color, and transformation.

Each piece of jewelry is painted by hand, often between layers of resin, creating depth and luminosity reminiscent of my textured abstracts. These art wearables allow me to translate my visual language into something intimate—art that can be touched, held, and worn.

Through sashawearableart.myshopify.com, I’ve created a space where my love for color, form, and storytelling meets the joy of adornment. It’s an extension of my studio practice—another way for art to move beyond the wall and become part of daily life, carrying with it the same message of strength, beauty, and emotional connection.
